The short version: your recipes live on your device and in your personal iCloud, where we can't see them. Forkd has no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no trackers. The only data that ever leaves is the recipe text you ask the AI to work on.
Forkd is developed by Rob Lee ("we", "us"), based in South Australia. Contact: dev@forkd.food.
Your recipes, photos, forks, categories, family member profiles, cook logs, feedback, meal plans and shopping lists are stored on your device. If you're signed in to iCloud, this data also syncs to the private iCloud database attached to your Apple Account, hosted by Apple. We have no access to your iCloud data — it's readable only by your devices.
Family member profiles are aliases and emoji by design. We recommend using nicknames rather than real names. Dietary constraints and preferences you record stay on your device and iCloud like everything else.
When you use an AI feature — recipe import, AI forking, nutrition estimates or weekly reports — the relevant text is sent to our server, which passes it to Anthropic (the maker of Claude) for processing. This includes recipe text, and, for AI forking, the dietary constraint text and recent feedback comments relevant to the request. Aliases are not attached as identities; there are no user accounts.
Forkd Pro subscriptions are processed entirely by Apple. We never see your payment details. Manage or cancel in Settings → your name → Subscriptions.
Because your data lives on your device and in your iCloud, you're in control: deleting a recipe deletes it everywhere your devices sync, and deleting the app (and its iCloud data via Settings → your name → iCloud → Manage Account Storage → Forkd) removes everything. Server-side usage counters expire automatically within days.
Forkd is a general-audience app and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Depending on where you live (including under the Australian Privacy Act and the GDPR), you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal information. Since we hold almost nothing about you, most of this is in your hands already — but email us at dev@forkd.food with any request or question and we'll help.
If we change this policy, we'll update this page and the date above. Material changes will be noted in the app's release notes.
